Glen Eyrie castle &

conference center

Colorado Springs, CO

The Navigators, a non-profit ministry, purchased Glen Eyrie in 1953 to be utilized as their headquarters. In addition, the hospitality ministry at Glen Eyrie strives to draw guests closer to what matters by inviting people to join in historic Castle tours, teas, overnight stays, personal retreats, conferences and more.

The most prominent structure on the Glen Eyrie grounds is the Castle, originally constructed in 1871, rebuilt and expanded in 1881 and an extensive reconstruction (exterior and interior) was completed in 1904. In anticipation of needed mechanical and fire protection renovations, HB&A was hired, in 2021, to complete an assessment of existing conditions. In order to develop accurate drawings, HB&A utilized a LiDAR scanner to produce 3-D images that were transferred into a BIM model. This process will help with suggestions and alternatives for concealing piping and duct work while keeping the historical preservation of the structure intact.

The initial relationship between HB&A and the Navigators began in 2016 with designing the renovation and addition to Cedar Ridge Lodge, one of their many guest quarters/meeting facilities. This was followed by the renovation of the Big Horn Lodge to meet ADA requirements. In addition to the renovation projects, HB&A has provided site planning services for the Eagle Lake Camps and Day Camp Valley. We are currently working with the client on designing the Day Camp Valley facility. This will be a newly constructed two-story activity center located next to Aspen Manor with an indoor court, walking track and classrooms.
