Project Info:
The primary goal for this fitness center addition was to provide a quality facility that enhanced mission effectiveness and improved the community's quality of life. Specific to the facility, the objective was to meet the U.S. Air Force Fitness Center Design requirements in a pleasing, aesthetic, and active environment. The existing fitness center and its proposed addition were designed to consolidate the physical fitness missions on the installation and to meet the Air Force's physical fitness program requirements. The fitness functions are supported in three separate facilities on this isolated base. This proposed addition was slightly over 50,000 square feet and included a dividable gym; group exercise area; free weight and selectorized weight training areas; cardio area; elevated running track; locker and shower facilities; administrative facilities; and support spaces.
The concept design for this project was developed using BIM software. Visual openness was important inside the facility to permit ease of use for both the operators and customers. Operators can see and understand the majority of the activities occurring within the facility from the control desk. The customers are able to view the majority of the activities so that they know how busy things are and what the facility has to offer. In addition, the centrally located control desk is a control point for the operators to maintain security, discipline, and safety for the customers.
