Project Info:

The proposed F-35 Academic Training Center (ATC) will be located to the south and west of the existing F-16 simulator building. Buildings 610 and 616, and their adjacent parking lots, will be demolished to provide a pad area for the new ATC buildings.

Removable bollards placed at the north end of Homer Drive will restrict access to maintenance and loading of equipment. The new south end of Homer Drive also has the potential to be an outdoor gathering or break area for staff. This space is sheltered from the sun to the south and west and will be a quiet area with no traffic. Access to Homer may also be provided from 141st Avenue by an existing alley.

Existing tennis courts to the south of Phantom Street will be removed and Phantom Street will shift approximately 100 feet to the south to allow for distinguished visitor (DV) parking for the ATC building. From the northwest corner of the DV parking lot, street trees will provide shade and visual relief from the large building mass of the ATC. These trees will continue down along Fighter Country to Jerstad Lane and to the north end of the site.

The selected building layout has two main entrances one facing south towards Phantom Street and another facing west across Jerstad Lane. Both entrances will contain two story volumes and be visible based on the building massing. Additional exits and access points are provided at key massing breaks on either side of the selected building layout has two main entrances – one facing south towards Phantom Street and the other facing west across Jerstad Lane. Both entrances will contain two story volumes; providing visibility above other building massing. Additional exits and access points are provided at key massing breaks on either side of the north wing with special doors provided for simulator delivery and maintenance functions. Hoists will provide access for simulator access to the second floor. The north wing with special doors provided for simulator delivery and maintenance functions. Hoists will provide access for simulator access to the second floor.

The south entrance will be the DV entrance and will have large amounts of curtain wall glass because it is set back beyond 82'. Unsecured administrative personnel and staff using the large assembly space to the east will use this entrance and will most likely park to the east or south. Once in this lobby space, staff can easily navigate both floors by stairs or elevator and then the main corridor which heads north and then west towards the Jerstad entry. Secondary corridors will provide access in the east and west directions to the classrooms.
